Sometimes the most impactful thing you can do is the most human, the most simple.
Here’s what gets me, especially in the US where we glamorize and adore the youth to such great lengths. Everything is about staying young and vibrant. I get it but it comes at an expense.
Older people kind of fade away and society ignores them as “passe”. It really gets me. Perhaps consumerism is behind this, but that’s a whole other topic.
I’m that type of older soul person who since a teenager sought out talking with people well beyond my years. To me, they have so much to say, and wisdom that is priceless.
Last fall I was talking with a Parks organization in DC and they pointed out an interesting dynamic of what makes parks come alive, “our parks bring out the memories of elders and dreams of the kids“.
This is a great emotive friendship bench story, elders are given a renewed purpose and make a massive impact on those around them. A must watch.
Here’s the deal:
We are all connected. You don’t get to where you want alone. It takes effort and some mentorship from those who have been in your situation before.
So how does this relate to CiviCRM? A CRM is a relationship builder tool. A tool to know who is asking for help and those who are offering to lend time for a talk like in this “Friendship Bench” inspiring story.
Are you seeing opportunities for mentorship and and wisdom-sharing in your nonprofit?
PS: When I was back in Minneapolis, MN I spent some time with Sidewalk Talk at Minnehaha Falls, check it out!
