CiviCRM’s current menu cannot be evolved much further. Over time, it has added more items in more places. Efforts via extensions such as Duct Tape are valiant to make the problem better by reducing clutter.
On many installs I have moved all admin config menu items under the “Administer” menu item and disabled all that are not relevant.
But in the end, this is still working around the same underlying structure that needs modernizing.
That’s why we’ve launched a make it happen campaign to overhaul it.
Lighthouse Navigation looks to separate the interface into clearer areas:
- A sidebar for primary navigation
- A global search and quick-add area
- A separate area for user accounts, help, and notifications
That gives CiviCRM a better technical foundation.
I’m convinced that this also matters when an organization first evaluates CiviCRM. An overwhelming menu can hurt adoption before staff understand what the system can do.
Improvements like this won’t happen without community support; it takes organizations and end users that rely on CiviCRM to invest in its future. Now is the time to have a hand in making it better for everyone.
Will you or your organization invest in a better CiviCRM experience?
